What to Expect & How to Prepare for Your Reiki Session
This page walks you through what to expect during a Reiki session and how to prepare beforehand.
How to Prepare for Your Session:
Dress Comfortably
Wear soft, loose, comfortable clothes that allow you to fully relax. Shoes will be removed so wear cozy socks if your feet get cold, or go barefoot if preferred.
Light Meal & Hydration
To help you get the most out of your session, try to enjoy a light snack and stay hydrated beforehand. This ensures you can fully relax without being distracted by hunger or thirst. It’s best to avoid heavy meals right before, so your body can focus all its energy on relaxing and receiving instead of digesting!
Caffeine & Alcohol
Limit caffeine consumption for at least 4 hours before your session, and avoid alcohol and recreational drugs on the day of session, as these can interfere with relaxation.
Minimize Distractions
Remember to set devices to ‘do not disturb’ and to use the restroom before the session. Please feel free to arrive a few minutes early to use the restroom and get settled in for in-person sessions.
Set an Intention
Setting a healing intention, whether it be for stress relief, emotional balance, clarity, or assistance in alleviating a physical symptom can be powerful in guiding the Reiki energy for your session.
Don’t have one? No worries! All you have to do is relax, breathe, and receive- the energy will meet you where you are and flow where it is most needed.
What to Expect for In-Person Sessions:
We are located inside of Nourish Holistic Beauty and Wellness. Upon arrival, I’ll greet you in the waiting area and guide you to the treatment space. We’ll take a few moments to connect, clarify your goals for the session, and answer any questions you may have.
I use a combination of hands-off and gentle hands-on Reiki techniques during the session. If you prefer not to be touched, simply let me know — your comfort and boundaries will always be honored.
I may also incorporate sound healing and vibrational tools such as tuning forks, singing bowls, and other musical instruments, as well as breathwork or meditation techniques. If you would prefer not to use any of these, just let me know — your session is always customized to your needs.
If you are sensitive to scents such as sage, palo santo, copal, or essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus — or if you have any related allergies — please let me know in advance so I can adjust the space accordingly.
What to Expect For Distance Reiki Sessions:
We will meet via Zoom for the full duration of the session. Before we start, we will take a few moments to connect, clarify your goals for the session, and answer any questions you may have.
While receiving Reiki, you are welcome to turn off your camera or lie down out of view if that makes you feel more comfortable. Audio will remain on and I will share music, or you may choose to play your own music if you prefer.
Create a Sacred Space
Choose a quiet, peaceful area where you can lie down comfortably and be undisturbed. If possible, take time to de-clutter the space as this will help with the flow of energy. The best part of a distance Reiki session is that the comfort of your own home allows you to make up a sanctuary any way you like! Grab a cozy blanket, extra pillows, or whatever helps you feel most relaxed. Feel free to use candles, crystals, incense, or soft music to set the mood.
Gentle Reminder:
A 24-hour cancellation policy is in place to honor the time reserved for your session.
