Reiki Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about Reiki.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle form of energy healing that supports the body’s natural ability to relax, regulate, and restore balance. A Reiki practitioner works with subtle energy to encourage calm in the nervous system and promote a sense of overall wellbeing.
Reiki is not a religion, belief system, or medical treatment. It works alongside traditional healthcare and other wellness practices.
What does Reiki help with?
People seek Reiki for many reasons, including:
– Stress and overwhelm
– Emotional fatigue or burnout
– Anxiety or feeling unsettled
– Difficulty relaxing or sleeping
– Feeling disconnected from themselves
– Support during life transitions
– General energetic or emotional balance
Reiki does not promise to cure conditions or replace medical care. Many people experience it as supportive, grounding, and restorative.
What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki experiences vary from person to person. Some common sensations include:
– Deep relaxation
– Warmth or gentle tingling
– A sense of calm or emotional release
– Feeling lighter or more grounded
– Quiet mental clarity
Some people feel very subtle sensations, while others feel more noticeable shifts. Both are completely normal.
Where are your Reiki healing sessions offered?
Lightful Reiki is based in Cypress, Texas and offers in-person Reiki sessions for clients in the greater Houston area. Distance Reiki sessions are also available for clients worldwide.
What happens during a Reiki session?
During a Reiki session, you remain fully clothed and lie down comfortably or sit if preferred. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body in a series of positions, or works with energy without physical contact.
Sessions are quiet and restful. You may notice sensations, emotions, or simply feel deeply relaxed.
Is Reiki safe?
Yes. Reiki is considered a safe and gentle practice. It does not involve physical manipulation or force, and there is no pressure to feel or experience anything specific.
Reiki can be received alongside medical treatments and is often used as a complementary wellness practice.
Can Reiki be done long distance?
Yes. Distance Reiki works with the same principles as in-person Reiki. Many people find distance sessions just as calming and effective, especially if they prefer receiving Reiki from their own space.
How many Reiki sessions do I need?
Some people notice benefits after one session, while others choose ongoing sessions for continued support. There is no required number of sessions. Reiki is flexible and can be used as needed.
Are there side effects after Reiki?
Most people feel relaxed, calm, or more centered after Reiki. Occasionally, people may feel tired, emotional, or more aware of what their body needs. These experiences are generally temporary and part of the body’s natural processing. If anything feels uncomfortable, it’s always encouraged to communicate with your practitioner.
Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?
No. Reiki does not require belief. Many people come simply curious or skeptical and still find the experience relaxing and supportive.
Is Reiki spiritual?
Reiki is often described as spiritual but not religious. It does not require belief in any doctrine or system. Some people experience Reiki as purely relaxing and calming, while others notice emotional or personal insights.
What should I do before or after a Reiki session?
There is no special preparation required. It can be helpful to:
– Drink water
– Avoid rushing immediately after your session
– Notice how your body and emotions feel
Rest and self-care after a session can support integration.
How is Reiki different from massage or bodywork?
Reiki does not involve muscle manipulation or physical pressure. It focuses on energetic support and relaxation rather than physical adjustment.
How do I know if Reiki is right for me?
If you are feeling stressed, emotionally drained, disconnected, or simply curious about gentle energy healing, Reiki may be worth exploring. Many people come to Reiki not because something is “wrong,” but because they want to feel more balanced and supported.
Is Reiki a replacement for medical or mental health care?
Reiki is a complementary wellness practice that supports relaxation, balance, and overall well-being. It is not intended to replace medical or mental health care, diagnosis, or treatment. Clients are encouraged to continue working with licensed healthcare providers for medical or mental health concerns.
What is your cancellation policy on Reiki sessions?

Cancellations or reschedules made with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. No-shows are non-refundable.
