Reiki Classes in Houston: What Level I and II Training Covers

By Jackie Jin, Usui Holy Fire® III Reiki Master–Teacher, Cypress, TX

A Reiki class teaches you to practice Reiki on yourself and on other people, and the length, content, and class size differ from one teacher to the next. Comparing what each class covers is the most reliable way to choose one. I teach Holy Fire® Reiki Level I and Level II in Cypress, Texas, so this guide explains what my class includes and gives you questions to ask any teacher you consider.

What Is Reiki Level I and Level II Training?

Reiki Level I and Level II are the first two stages of Reiki training. In my class they are taught together as a two-day intensive of 12 hours, and students complete the class with certification in Holy Fire® Reiki Level I and Level II. The training prepares you to offer Reiki sessions in person or remotely, whether for your own family and friends or as the foundation of a professional practice.

What You Learn in a Reiki Level I and II Class

The class combines teaching, discussion, guided experience, and hands-on practice. Over the two days we cover what Reiki is and how its energy works, its origin and history, and the Reiki Ideals. You learn self-Reiki, the standard hand positions, and how to give a complete treatment to another person. We also cover using Reiki to support specific conditions and the healing of unwanted habits, and clearing, grounding, and protecting your energy.

The Level II portion introduces the traditional Usui Reiki II symbols and distant healing, which is how Reiki is offered remotely over Zoom or at a distance. We also work with practice clients and talk through the foundations of a professional practice.

Japanese Reiki Techniques Taught in Class

Students also learn and practice Japanese Reiki techniques, including Gassho meditation, Reiji-ho, Byosen Scanning, Gyoshi-ho, and Kenyoku, also called dry bathing. These practices are part of the traditional approach to Usui Reiki, and many students enjoy them as a daily self-practice.

How to Choose a Reiki Class in Houston

Reiki classes vary, so a few questions help you compare them side by side:

  1. Who teaches the class, and what level and lineage have they completed?
  2. How many hours is the class, and how is that time divided between teaching and practice?
  3. How many students are in the room?
  4. Will I practice on other people, and will I receive Reiki myself?
  5. What do I receive at the end of the class?
  6. Do I need any experience before I enroll?
  7. Which Reiki techniques and symbols are taught?

You are welcome to ask me every one of these on a free discovery call before you decide.

Reiki Class Size and Hands-On Practice

I limit my class to six students. A small group means each person gets individual attention while learning the hand positions and practicing treatments, and it keeps the day close to a conversation instead of a lecture. Hands-on practice is built into both days, so you leave having given and received Reiki.

Do You Need Experience Before Taking a Reiki Class?

No previous Reiki experience is required. Anyone can learn Reiki, and it does not require belief, only openness. Students come to my class to explore Reiki for personal healing, to build a professional practice, or both.
